I headed to the airport one early morning. The flight was a memorable one. The view from above is absolutely awesome! While aboard the plane, I finally met the iconic volcano known for its perfect cone. It was indeed magayon! (Bicolano word for beautiful).

At the Legazpi airport, I felt the festive atmosphere as dancers and bands welcomed visitors. They were in colorful costumes.

As summer approached, I had my time walking under the sun in the beautiful province of Ilocos Norte! It was the time for Laoag City’s Pamulinawen Festival.

I witnessed the parade of giant and colorful floats which were made of different materials – at their best! Some floats showcased the interpretation of Pamulinawen itself (song about the beauty of a maiden). I also enjoyed the competition among street dancers. It was astonishing to see the creativity of Ilocanos by their choreography and costumes.

Let me begin with history. Spaniards had named Cebu as Sugbo, which means to wade in water, then changed it to Zubu because they could not pronounce the former. It was an apt name for a place surrounded by waters. It was also the home of the pintados (painted ones/tattooed people). In summary, these were what I learned from the Pasiyo sa Kabilin (heritage tour).

Once upon an afternoon, I wove my summer story on a calesa ride in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. I took a calesa along Calle Crisologo. From a kutsero, I learned that there are two types of calesa ride in Vigan: the Heritage tour (at Php150) and the Heritage village tour (at Php50). The latter will cover a tour along Calle Crisologo while the Heritage tour will go to several tourist destinations. So, I chose the Heritage tour.
