18″The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

because he has anointed me

to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed,

38how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

A BRIEF LOOK BACK ON CHRIST MINISTRY

1.      Jesus considered it a matter of Top priority. – John 1:32
2.      He carried out His ministry through the anointing of the Holy Spirit. – Luke 4:18; Acts 10:38
3.      He did not talk about God’s power to heal and save, He demonstrated it. – Matt. 7:28-29 Luke 5:17 Luke 6:19

BIBLICAL DEFINITION

*      To ‘anoint’ means to dedicate or consecrate someone or something by applying oil

10Moses then took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and consecrated them.

11He sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times and anointed the altar and all its utensils, and the basin and its stand, to consecrate them.

12Then he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed him, to consecrate him. . (Lev. 8:10-13)

*      The anointing is the presence and power of God manifested in, upon, or through a person’s life by the Holy Spirit.

13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power – 1 Samuel 16:13

*      Impartation of God’s ability upon an available and yielded vessels to fulfill and carryout His will and His purpose.

FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE ANOINTING

1.      Anointing is precious and holy.
2.      Anointing produces power.
3.      Anointing must be protected.
4.      Anointing is essential.
5.      Anointing can be decreased.
6.      Anointing can be increased.
7.      Anointing can be sensed and felt.

THE NEED FOR GOD’S ANOINTING

1.      It is a top priority in the life of Jesus Christ. – Luke 4:18
2.      Jesus considered it a matter of top priority for His disciples. – Luke 24:49 Acts 1:5,8
3.      To experience impartation of God’s power.
4.      To qualify for spiritual position Ephesians 4:10
5.      To produce lasting fruit for God’s Kingdom Zechariah 4:6
6.      To experience physical and emotional healing – Luke 4:18, Acts 10:38
7.      To experience release from spiritual bondage – Isaiah 10:27

STEPS IN RECEIVING GOD’S ANOINTING

1.      Deep hunger

“ … He is a Rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” – Hebrews 11:6

… thou shall seek the LORD thy God, thou shall find him, if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul”

2.      Purify your heart

“that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor – 1 Thessallonians 4:4

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans12:1

3.      Center your heart in fulfilling God’s purpose

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

because he has anointed me

to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners

and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed” – Luke 4:18

4.      Ask for the anointing

“How much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him” Luke 11:13b

Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit – Ephessians 5:18

5.      Be sensitive to his presence and expect his touch

1When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.( Acts 2:1-2)
