I’m Lonely and I’m Glad

Teachings for Men

I’m Lonely And I’m Glad

MEMORY VERSE:

“I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God;

one has this gift, another has that.”

1 Corinthians 7:7

INTRODUCTION

“Completely surrounded but so alone… the silence is deafening… you are lonely in the crowd…” In the life of every adult, there is surely at least one moment in his/her life where he/she has felt loneliness. There is nothing wrong with being lonely, is there?

I. Loneliness demands a person’s company.

o Loneliness isn’t about numbers: it doesn’t choose how many people it

wants to be with at the same time.

o Loneliness isn’t about places: it doesn’t choose where it wants to be with

you but when.

II. Loneliness can be a bondage.

o Loneliness invites in its other friends: self-pity, self-deception, and low

self-esteem.

o Loneliness yearns to set down deep, tenacious, and addictive roots in a

person.

III. Loneliness can be a blessing.

o Loneliness is a weakness that God can use to manifest His strength.

o Loneliness reminds us of the preciousness of the companionship of God

and loved ones.

CONCLUSION

Loneliness not only brings in self-pity, self-deception, and low self-esteem but also tries to set down deep, tenacious, and addictive roots. No one is immune

to loneliness but no one needs to be imprisoned by it. Every person has the choice of whether it will be a vicious captor or a blessed opportunity for God’s wonderful grace.

REFLECTION: Let us ask ourselves the following questions:

o When was my first attack of loneliness?

Why did I feel lonely? How long did my loneliness last? What happened

for it to stop?

o Am I still suffering from vicious loneliness?

If so, how can God turn this loneliness into a blessing?

o What practical steps can I take in order to overcome loneliness?

o What practical steps can I take in order to help others overcome

loneliness?

APPLICATION:

= prayer of commitment =

Dear Father, thank You for choosing to experience the pain of loneliness and turning it into a gift. Whether loneliness is for a short time or for a long period of time, it can be used for Your glory. Thank You because You are He who transforms weaknesses into strengths. Continue to be with me. I will continue to always look to You and to trust you at all times. Amen.

= statement of commitment =

Whenever loneliness tries to bring in self-pity, self-deception, and low selfesteem, I will invite in the companionship of Your grace. Whenever other people

around are being bound by loneliness I will trust that You can transform it into an intimate companionship that glorifies Your name.
