WHAT’S WITH OCTOBER 29?

“But they that wait upon the LORD
shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as EAGLES
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint”

– Isaiah 40:31

Did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks?

The eagle will fly to some high spots and wait for the winds to come. When the storm hits, the eagle spreads its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm.

While the storm rages, the eagle soars above it.  It rises through the winds that bring the storm. Thus, the eagle does not escape the storm; it simply uses the storm to lift itself higher.

This is the Jesus is Lord (JIL) Church that we know, soaring higher above the storms with God’s divine strength. And this is what we will celebrate on October 29 at the Luneta Grandstand.

OCTOBER 29: THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!

Have you ever wondered why the JIL Church will celebrate its anniversary on October 29? Why on a Friday night?

October 29 is the special day that the Luneta Park Management allotted for the JIL Anniversary gathering. The JIL Family in the Philippines and all over the world missed the Luneta celebrations last year. Thus this year, a bigger gathering is expected and a Friday night would better accommodate international delegates who will also take time to go to their provinces for the Filipino observance of All Saints Day.

Friday is always special because it is generally acknowledged as “gimmick day,” meaning, a day of leisure, enjoyment and fun.

And what better way to spend a Friday night but to celebrate 32 years of God’s faithfulness to the Church born in His own heart?

Also, did you know that the Jewish Sabbath (Shabbat) is celebrated on a Friday? In Judaism, days are counted from the sunset of a day until the sunset of the next day. So the seventh day of creation corresponds to the sunset of a Friday evening to the sunset of a Saturday evening. Isn’t a Friday night a perfect time to worship the King of glory who gives His people rest on a Sabbath Day?

What’s with October 29?

How about calling it God’s perfect time for the JIL Family to gather together and thank Him for another year of renewing the JIL Church’s strength so that from the success that it now holds on its 32nd year, it may still soar higher for the greater glory of the Lord Jesus Christ!
