But thank God! He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in Christ’s triumphal procession. Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume. (2 Corinthians 2:14, NLT)
Historically, being a captive trudging along in the triumphal procession of the victorious general meant being part of the defeated camp and thus, meant shame and humiliation. For Paul, however, because Christ was his Captor, he was following along in His triumphal procession not with shame, but with pride and joy. May we learn from Paul that being made captive by Christ is not our defeat, but our one true victory.
