I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
In this world, troubles are sure. There are those that jab at us from the outside—wars and crimes, political unrest and economic recessions, accidents and calamities, job layoffs and piled up bills, illnesses and disabilities, misunderstandings and relationship rifts. Then there are those that pound at us from the inside—disappointment, shame, guilt, confusion, fear, anxiety, sorrow.
But surer than all those troubles is the One who turned water into wine… who calmed the winds and the waves with a command… who multiplied the meager amount of bread and fish to feed thousands of men… who healed multitudes of blind, deaf, mute, and lame men… who brought the dead back to life… and who, Himself, rose from the dead.
Jesus Christ. He who is the Great Physician, the Miracle Worker, and the Mighty Deliverer. He who is Comfort, who is Peace, who is Hope, who is Love. He who is for us—with us—until the very end of age.
