“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world.

Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12

Picture the scene well. That terrible scene where an adulteress should’ve been stoned to death had just ended and Jesus had just, once again, entered the temple to sit down and teach the people that had gathered around Him. He had just come from a scene of great provocation and there He sat, fueled by the composure that can only come from divine peace. Then He spoke these words:

“I am the light of the world.” How many of us have found ourselves, exclaiming in complete despair and helplessness: “I am trying so hard, but why can’t I change?” All of us certainly have, in at least one point of our lives. But if we were all created intuitively understanding right from wrong… then why couldn’t we be created naturally capable of living lives of excellence, faithfulness and integrity of spirit? The answer is simple. It is because whatever “light” we may have in us can only be as bright as the light reflected from the source of the light. And the only source of that light is, yes, Jesus.

“Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Tap into the source of that light. How? By accepting Him into your life and committing to leading a life that lives only to know Him, to learn from Him, to serve beside Him and to please Him. It is only as we spend our lives as near to the source of that light as possible can we find that we become truer and truer reflections of His light. Without Him, there can be no other way.

He is the light of the world. Come to Him and ask Him to help you better reflect His light. Let His light fill you, once again. All you need to do is close your eyes and ask. Today.
