My Everlasting Father

Teachings for Couples

My Everlasting Father

 MEMORY VERSE:

A father to the fatherless, a defender of the widows is God in His holy dwelling.

Psalm 68:5

INTRODUCTION

Single supporters naturally feel deprived not just because of the lack of financial security but also because of the absence of a strong foundation in the home – the father. When he is gone or has left you behind, where do you derive your strength from?

I. Families who lack a father are deprived of basic needs.

  • There is no father to provide financial needs.

  • There is no father to provide emotional needs.

II. Single supporters turn to the Heavenly Father for their needs.

  • He is a Father to the fatherless.

  • He is a defender of the widows.

III. The Heavenly Father fathers the single supporters.

  • He provides for all their needs.

  • He defends their rights from their oppressors.

CONCLUSION

Fatherless families feel great deprivation of physical and emotional resources. Christian single supporters turn to the Father of all fatherless. God the Father fathers and defends them.

REFLECTION: Let us ask ourselves the following questions:

  • Were we financially wanting because our father was away?

— How did I feel?

  • Did we ever feel injustice and no one could defend our cause?

— How did I feel?

  • Have I experienced God being my father?

— In what instance?

— How did I respond?

  • Have I experienced God’s justice for my family?

— In what instance?

— How did I respond?

  • Has God provided all our needs?

APPLICATION

— prayer of commitment –

Dear Father, thank You for being a Father to me especially in these times that I do not have a father with me now. Thank You for defending me in times of injustices. You are my everlasting Father. Amen.

— statement of commitment —

Whenever I feel deprived of my basic needs, I will turn to the Heavenly Father for help. Whenever people oppress our family unjustly, I will ask for His defense. I will acknowledge that He is my everlasting Father.
