Moses: A Pilgrimage of Faith

MEMORY VERSE:

“About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him

and went up on to a mountain to pray.

As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed,

and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.

Two men, Moses and Elijah appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus.

They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.”

Luke 9: 28-31

INTRODUCTION

Life is a journey and every journey must follow a path or a road.  At the start of a journey are hopes, plans and dreams but as a journey is continually undertaken, very grave questions (e.g. Why is this road like this?  What must I do?  Am I on the right road?  Should I go on?, etc.) arise and the right answers seem to be nowhere in sight.  This being the case, how can it be possible to succeed?

I.  Moses asked questions.

o   There are no wrong or right questions.

o   Asking questions may spell the difference between right and wrong, hope and despair and failure and victory.

II. Moses demanded the right answers.

  • All answers received must be probed.
  • God must be trusted to show which of the answers is right.

III. Moses stuck to the right answers with a death grip.

  • Ploughing head on is necessary in sticking to the right answers.
  • Only death grips on right answers can lead to success.

CONCLUSION

In Moses’ eyes, there were no such things as wrong and right questions.  This was because he knew that going through the ordeal of asking question, finding right answers and sticking to right answers spelled the difference between failure and success on the road of life.  He trusted God to guide him throughout the way.  In the end, Moses succeeded and God gave him the ultimate reward: to see the glory of God with his own eyes.

REFLECTION: Let us ask ourselves the following questions:

  • Do I ask all my questions?

If so… why?

If not… why not?

  • What big difference can asking questions make on my pilgrimage?

  • Do I demand the answers to my questions?

If so… why?

If not… why not?

  • What big difference can the right answers make to my pilgrimage?

  • How can I find the right answers?

What can I do?

What can God do?

What must I do?

  • How can I grip the right answers with a death grip?

Why do I have to?

APPLICATION:

 = prayer of commitment =

Lord, thank You for wanting me so much to succeed that You guide me patiently and have even prepared an ultimate reward waiting for me once I get to the end of the road.  Help me, Lord, to ask all my questions and to demand the right answers.  Help me to grip them with a death grip.  I want and I will succeed… with You… for You.  Amen.

 = statement of commitment =

Whenever doubts assail me, I will ask.  Whenever answers come to me, I will demand and grip the right one until I reach the end of the road.
