MEMORY VERSE:

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us…”

1 John 3:16

INTRODUCTION

When is Mr./Ms. Right going to come? Is he/she going to come… or has he/she already come? How can we know if we are all ready with THE ONE.

I. Right love starts with honest friendship.

  • Right love knows the person it loves – his/her great points.
  • Right love knows the person it loves – his/her shameful flaws.

II. Right love loves wisely.

  • Right love makes decisions that edify itself to God.
  • Right love makes decisions that edify its beloved to God.

III. Right love decides to stay no matter what.

  • Right love stays when we want it to stay because it reciprocates our love.
  • Right love stays even when we don’t want it to stay because it doesn’t ask for anything in return.

CONCLUSION

Jesus knew who we really are: from our great points to our shameful flaws before He decided to lay down His life in love for us. Everything He did, is doing, and will do are in edification of Himself and of us to God. He stays in love with us when we show Him our love and even when we don’t because His love is unconditional. Mr./Ms. Right, that is, THE ONE, should display these same characteristics [of God’s love for us] to us.

REFLECTION: Let us ask ourselves the following questions:

  • Do I have honest friendships with the people around me?
    • Why? How can I make this foundation even firmer?
    • Why not? How can I establish a firm foundation instead?
  • Have I set the same standard of behavior and decision-making as God requires me to set?
    • To myself?
    • To my future partner?
  • Is my love the staying kind?
  • Do I want to find the ‘staying kind’ of love?
    • How can I find it?
    • What must I do before I can find it?

APPLICATION:

= prayer of commitment =

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me with the right kind of love. Teach me to love and to seek a love that is of the right kind. Equip me in my desire to learn to love the right kind of love and empower me to see the right kind of love when it comes. Thank You. Amen.

= statement of commitment =

I will ask God to equip me in my desire to learn the right kind of love so that when the right love comes my way, God can empower me to see it.
